Established in 1996 Fineline Marine was co-founded by Peter and Evan Lawrence. The Lawrence family has a long history in the braiding industry. In 1937 Jack Lawrence started New Zealand's first braiding company, Lynn Laces. In the 1950's it was sold out to Feltex and ultimately became Southern Ocean Ropes. Following this, Jack Lawrence formed Lawrence Textiles; a multi faceted braiding and weaving company.
In 1972 Jack's son, Peter, joined the company which was sold to Donaghys industries in the 1980's. Peter remained here as a technical manager until 1994. Sensing a need in the market for a responsive cordage manufacturing company, Fineline Marine was formed.
With Peter's son, Evan now at the helm, new European braiding, twisting and winding machines were purchased. This gave a high degree of automation and 24/7 running ability.
Initially the range of products consisted of small general braids however, the focus of the company in the last 5 years has been towards the marine and specialized yachting market. Approximately 25% of our products are now exported worldwide.
